Tim Hortons An Enduring Tradition For Many

No blog on coffee would be complete without a write-up on Tim Hortons, a Canadian company that has successfully gone international.

Tim Hortons was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. The first Tim Hortons stores offered only two products: donuts and coffee. This line was soon augmented by two original Tim Hortons creations: the Apple Fritter and the Dutchie. They became the most popular choices for consumers in the 1960s, and remain popular even today.

The chain's biggest drawing card remains the coffee. Tim Hortons special coffee blend is also available in cans, as are Tim Hortons hot chocolate, English Toffee and French Vanilla Cappuccinos. Personally, I find Tim Hortons coffee as it is served over the counter to be too weak and watery for my taste. I also find the calibre of the customer service to be lacking. Nevertheless, Tim Hortons remains a successful franchise that has expanded into the United States and onto a variety of military bases throughout the world.

In 1995, Tim Hortons merged with Wendy's International Inc. and in March 2006, Tim Hortons completed an initial public offering and was fully spun off as a separate company on September 29, 2006. Currently, Tim Hortons trades on the New York Stock Exchange and the TSX.

We will be discussing more about Tim Hortons in the next blog.
