CAC Plays Vital Role in International Coffee Production

More on the doings of the Coffee Association of Canada (CAC):

According to the CAC web page, the ongoing practices of the organization include buying certified organic coffee, developing partnerships with co-op organizations that are committed to fair compensation for growers and workers, and developing health care and education programs for coffee workers, their families and their communities. Other initiatives include prepaying for coffee crops during the growing season to finance the harvest and the handling of the beans after harvest, as well as assisting farmers to purchase the equipment to help them increase yields.

Coffee growers and government representatives from coffee-producing countries continue to come to Canada for meetings organized by the CAC and its members. Members of the CAC also travel regularly to coffee-producing countries from which members import their beans. These members continue to forge partnerships with coffee growers, searching for ways to improve conditions for everyone involved in the growing and harvesting of coffee.

According to the CAC web page, however, there is a limit to how much impact members of the coffee industry can have. Most long-term change must come about through government initiatives such as export development and international trade agreements. In the meantime, CAC members will go on working directly with coffee growers to improve agricultural practices and produce more and better beans.
