A Short Review of a Coffee Web Site

At the suggestion of my boss Mary, I took a look at a website called "gourmet-coffee-lovers-haven.com." Written by a self-avowed family man and Christian with a data-processing background, this web site is written in an informal style and covers in a comprehensive manner many aspects of gourmet coffee. Of particular interest to me was the discussion of the relative merits of two types of coffee grinders: the one using rotating blades and the one that "burrs" the coffee into successively smaller grains. According to the writer, it is the burr coffee grounder that produces superior results, mainly because the blade grinder tends to produce more "coffee dust" which can clog the filter in the coffee maker. With the burr grinder, however, the coffee is ground more consistently and efficiently, as one can adjust the two burrs to achieve either a more or less coarse grind. Looking at the models of coffee grounders for sale on the site, however, I was struck by how much the burr coffee-grinders cost. The average price was several hundred dollars -- clearly not something the average working person would purchase as a matter of course.

The web site is written in an easy-to-understand style that neither condescends nor simplifies the subject-matter. I would recommend this web site to anyone desiring to get "the straight facts" on matters to do with coffee.
