Upcoming Coffee Contests Showcase American Talent

Received an e-mail the other day from a coffee roaster known as Counter Culture Coffee. In the United States, three coffee competitions are being held this weekend (April 12th to the 14th): the United States Barista Championship (USBC), the Brewers Cup and the Cup Taster's Championship. Taking place in Boston, Massachusetts, the events are being co-sponsored by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and feature baristas from coffee shops all across America. Some notable baristas from Counter Culture Coffee who will be participating in the contests include Katie Carguilo, current champion in the USBC. and Jonathan Bonchak, current Brewers Cup champion in the Southeast Regional Barista competition. 


According to the press release, other notable participants who will be using Counter Culture Coffee in their bid to win in the upcoming competitions include the following coffee shops: Everyman Espresso (the city of New York), Ultimo Coffee Shop (Philadelphia), Peregrine Espresso (Washington D.C.) Cafe Helios (Raleigh, North Carolina), Houndstooth Coffee (Austin, Texas) and Visions Espresso (Seattle, Washington).

According to information found in the press release, Counter Culture Coffee is a company "dedicated to finding and bringing to market the most exciting and delicious coffees in the world. The company's vision is to pursue coffee perfection by creating partnerships dedicated to environmental, social and fiscal sustainability throughout the coffee chain, improving the natural environment and operating efficiently to minimize environmental impact."

The three coffee competitions taking place in Boston this weekend "will serve as a national stage for some of the country's most talented coffee people and attendees will be able to watch some of the nation's leading coffee makers taste and prepare coffee beverages, including espresso, cappuccino and signature drinks" from participating coffee shops.
