Destination Cafe Opens in Mississauga!

It's now the last day of winter, although judging by the weather outside in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada you really wouldn't know it. Old man winter seems to be reluctant to leave this year, though at least we had sunshine today.

It's on this auspicious occasion that I would like to welcome readers to Destination Cafe's first official blog. Located in the heart of the Port Credit community in Mississauga, right beside Lake Ontario (and just outside the City of Toronto), Destination Cafe is unique in several ways. First of all, it is one of the few coffee shops in the area that offer freshly ground coffee that has been also roasted on site that very day for the coffee connoisseur's pleasure. We also pride ourselves on the fact that we purchase our coffee only from those dealers that practise fair trade when buying coffee from the growers. This means that the growers of the coffee (who are typically indigent farmers living on a subsistence income in remote villages in Third World countries) are better compensated for their labor than is the norm among the big coffee companies.

Destination Cafe is also unique in that we utilize the talent and abilities of people who have experienced mental health problems in the past. These are people who come from all walks of life and who bring a variety of talents to the table. What they all have in common is a desire to make a meaningful contributution to the community in which they live in an employment setting. Walking in to Destination Cafe, you wouldn't be able to tell that these are people who have had mental health issues in their lives, nor would they necessarily tell you that such is the case. The whole point of working in such a setting is to prove (to both themselves and others) that they are capable, competent individuals in their own right who can and should have the opportunity to work in meaningful jobs and receive a fair wage in return for doing so.

I hope you, the reader, will continue to visit this blog site often. I will be adding new postings to this site on a regular basis. Much of this blog site will be devoted to my own education on the topic of coffee, which I have been told rivals that of wine in terms of the complexity of the subject. And if you happen to be in the Port Credit area on Lakeshore Boulevard East in Mississauga, be sure to stop by and be treated to a truly rewarding coffee experience at Destination Cafe.
